The $112 million project will use state-of-the-art ultraviolet (UV) disinfection technology to further protect the water supplies of 2.5 million Bay Area residents and create hundreds of thousands of jobs for building and construction trade workers in San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties. The Tesla Treatment Facility Project include a new ultraviolet water treatment building and a chemical building. The entire facility will become the largest in the state of California.
The functionality is the key design parameter of these two buildings which express the materiality and simple form of cast-in-place concrete. The high contrast between concrete and nature was examplified by the use of vine along the south and west facades the buildings to minimize the heat gain in the hot and arid months of the year. The design was well received by the SF Arts Commissioners. This LEED gold certified project employs different design strategies for achieving the sustainable interior spaces as well as the building envelope. This project was executed with Stantec Consulting Inc.
